Max Brod – Poet and Thinker
Before World War II, Max Brod (1884–1968) was the most renowned German-speaking author in Prague. The question “Who is Franz Kafka?” met with the reply: “He’s a friend of the famous Max Brod.” Without Brod we wouldn’t have had Kafka. He rescued and edited the work of his friend. Brod became a member of the West Berlin Akademie der Künste in 1964. To mark the completion of a twelve-volume edition on Brod’s works, the editors Hans-Gerd Koch and Hans Dieter Zimmermann will hold a discussion with Klaus Völker.
